Training of Trainers for Basic Research Methods (Visayas Cluster)
As an offshoot of the regional consultation on the standardization of training modules used in Basic Research Methods held last September 4-5, 2018, a Training of Trainers per cluster were conducted. Particularly, the Training of Trainers per cluster was scheduled on the following dates: Visayas cluster - November 27-29, 2018, Luzon cluster - December 4-6, 2018, and Mindanao Cluster - December 11-13, 2018.
The Training of Trainers for the Visayas Cluster was held in Hotel Estrella, Tacloban City last November 27-29, 2018. Trainers from the Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development were Dr. Maria Fe Abejar and Dr. Maria Philina Villamor, who are both part of the Committee on Research and Development of the consortium. The 3-day training was aimed to create effective messengers that could teach budding and seasoned researchers on Basic Research Methods (BRM).
Standardized BRM modules, as well as a teacher's guides, were prepared for each trainer. Dr. Ophelia Mendoza and Dr. Ofelia Saniel discussed the different modules first before being used by the regional trainers. As a way to test the competencies of the regional trainers, each trainer was assigned a module to be discussed. The performance of each trainer was then evaluated after every presentation.
Quoting from the words of Dr. Mendoza, "Research is not for the highly-sensitive, onion-skinned, and proud persons." Through properly trained trainers, a culture of research can be built. Eventually, more quality health researches will be produced and be funded.
